Synopsis.

The Mythology department at prestigious Harvard University is tiny—and Mackenzie Duncan has just been selected as one of the lucky few. Her love for myths and legends is deep, but she never thought any of it could be real.

After being attacked by a large wolf while walking home alone, Mackenzie realizes something is not right. She heals quickly, has suddenly become super strong, and is experiencing mood swings that can't possibly be normal. The myths she's studying aren't myths at all. Werewolves are real, and she's one of them. Fear of what she is, and who she might hurt sends Mackenzie running from the life she’s worked hard to build–and straight into the arms of a handsome Were named Geoff and into the home of his pack. Living with her new pack takes the edge off her confusion and self-loathing, but the arrival of new pack members changes the dynamic, and tests Geoff and Mackenzie’s growing relationship.

The hardest part of being a werewolf is to have no control and no memory of her time as a bloodthirsty beast. When a moon cycle passes, and she is actually able to remember bits and pieces of the night, she starts to ask questions, and the more questions she asks, the more she realizes she doesn’t like the answers. Can she set aside her own sense of morals to belong to a pack that is like a family or will she leave everything behind yet again in search of a life she can be proud of?

SJ's Review.

Okay so normally I'm not a massive paranormal fan but lately I have decided to broaden my reading options so i read The Tempering and hot damn this was a good read. A definate 5*.

So firstly we have Mackenzie. Mackenzie is a harvard student studying mythology. With her love of myth an legends did she ever think some of it was true, and it could lead her to a very interesting future? How could someone think the stuff you read in books and see on the tele could potentially be real? But little did Mac know some of these myth were real and livin amongst us all. After one unfortunate night Mac becomes one of them mythilogical creatures. Scared and alone not knowing what is happeneding to her, Mac runs. She runs from her life and from harvard. Heartbreaking as that sounds maybe it's for the best? Mac is trying to get as far away as possible while keeping the public safe from her wolfie side. Roaming from town to toen a new full moon is fastly approaching and Mac has to find some woodland far from all civilization, little does she know this is where she will find her new family?

Enter Margaret and Geoff. From the off Mac felt a connection with Geoff, but can he help keep her safe? or from doing something she will live to regret? Can these two help Mac to understand what is happening to her? When Mac realises these guys are just like her. I think she is a little realived to know she is not alone. Just when she thinks she is safe and Goeff will prevent her from hurting another human she is proved wrong. Was it meant to be? Was she bite as chance or intential?

Enter Liam. Liam is turnt world by Mac. Liam can't accept what he has become and he blames Mac. As Liam's first full moon approaches he grows increasingly more and more worried. As much as everyone has tried to warn him and explain to him what would happen he still doesn't know. After Liam's first night under the full moon he approachs Mac and tells her he understand. These two build there relationship slowly and it becomes clear that these two have a connection.

On the other side of the coin there is an intense connection building between Geoff & Mac. Right from the beginning these two were attracted too eachother, but is it love or lust?

Margaret doesn't want Geoff and Mac to become and item I'm not entirely sure if her reasons are genuine or not at this point but she is pushing Mac towards Liam she can see a connection between the two of them and she uses this to her own advantage. Geoff is sent to stay with another pack for a few weeks and just when Liam and Mac are getting close Geoff returns to witness all this. Is he generally heartbroken or is he just hurt that she never waited for him? Is what the pack leader told her true or was she trying to sway Mac away from Geoff?

Mac really likes both these guys but who's the guy that is right from her? I'd like to say I'm team Liam or team Geoff but honestly I still haven't made up my mind. I'm swaying more towards Geoff then Liam come along and does something utterly beautiful and I get pushed back to team Liam. This is just like twilight all over again... even thought I was always team Edward ;)

Both men care for Mac and would clearly do anything to protect her. Let's just say Mac is in a massive confusing love triangle with two stunningly sex alpha males. Mac has been told she can not be with Geoff because Geoff is a born were and he must mate with a female born were.

All in all I love this book. Once i started I couldn't put it down. It was pure genius. As much as I hate cliff hangers, the ending didn't bother me to much. It wasn't a cliff hanger but i was an ending that makes me want to read book two as soon as possible. Lucky for me Book two is already out and is now patiently awaiting me on my kindle ;)

Adrianne has made a fan girl of me!

About the Author.

Growing up, Adrianne couldn't get her hands on enough books to satisfy her need for the make believe. Now, as an adult, books still make up majority of her free time, and now her tales get written down to be shared with the world.

During the day, Adrianne uses her camera to capture life's stories for clients of all ages and at night, after her two children are tucked in bed; she devotes herself to her written work. Adrianne is living the life she always wanted, surrounded by art and beauty, the written word and a loving family.

As a young adult and new adult author, Adrianne James has plans to bring stories of growing characters, a little romance, and perhaps a little magic and mythology down the line for her readers to enjoy.
