The Broken Road

SJ's Review.

I had the opportunity to be on the blog tour for The Broken Road series by Melissa Hule and I was mega busy but thought sod it I will make time and honestly, I'm glad I did. I really enjoyed Shane & Megan's story. Let me start at the beginning. If you haven't read book one please do not read the review for book two as book one WILL BE ruined!

Megan. Megan is a lonely soul, that's all I can say to describe her. At the beginning of the book you see she has very little friends and no partner, her close companion is her dog Penny. Megan has a best friend Jen but Jen has a daughter and husband. Does Megan want that? She always thought she did and she was even engaged to Tommy but things didn't work out. Tommy was more in a relationship with his job than with Megan. Megan has a massive crush on Shane. Shane is the bad boy, one of Megan's best friends, once a lot closer than they are now but still Shane doesn't know how Megan feels and she hopes to keep it like that.

Shane. Shane is a bad boy through and through. Spend a little time in prison and probably his whloe life on the wrong side of the law, but Shane is Megan's shoulder to cry on, he was her rock when her Father died. Shane goes to Megan when he has nowhere to live and moves in with not much more than a few duffle bags of clothing... Is Shane bringing a little more to Megan's doorstep than a few bags of clothes? Maybe a whole lot of drama and misery?

Right so now you have met Shane & Megan lets talk seriously.... Megan has always had the hots for Shane but has never had any reaction from Shane so she is pretty certain he doesnt see her the way she sees him. That is until she meets Alex. Alex is a nice guy, a vet infact... Megan walks in on Shane and Alex face to face having a few words... Is Shane Jealous of Alex? Does he secrelty like Megan the way Megan likes him? Or is he just looking out for his friend?

Lets skip a little bit and Megan and Shane have got there act together and done the deed ;) all is well and good with the world. Little things keep happening to Megan's family and they are not sure why. Could it be Megan's new connection to Shane? Hmmmm...

The Broken Road is centred largely on a Drug Cartel and when something goes very wrong Megan not only loses her self but Shane also.

Will she ever feel safe again?

Will her family be safe?

Has Megan just lost the most precious thing in her life?

And gained another?

This book made me feel a massive range of emotions. I was angry, I was sad, I was happy, I was crying, I was out of my mind with worry, I was fuming!! Argh how can one book make me feel all these different things.... I read this book in one evening, I could not put it down! THEN you get to the end and want to start the second one straight away... I am just so glad that I had the second one to start straight away and didn't have to wait like I'm guessing some people did have to, waiting would have killed me!!!

Please DO NOT read the following review if you have NOT read The Broken Road as the book WILL be ruined!!!

Synopsis.

When Shane appeared in her carport, Megan thought she was dreaming. The man who stole her heart, the father of her unborn child was the same man she feared dead. Elated and overjoyed, Megan believes they will finally get their happy ending.

But the happiness doesn’t last long. Shane’s long road home created demons, demons that Megan can’t fight. Past discretions come back to haunt them, and with that comes the paranoia and the distrust. And the trouble doesn’t stop there. Danger threatens their lives at every turn, and when the time comes, Megan must make the ultimate decision.

Will Shane and Megan have their happily ever after? Or will that be another Broken Promise?

Broken Promises.

SJ's Review.

I actually preferred this book ALOT more than The Broken Road, where the broken road did pull me back and fore this book did that also but in a lot more ways.

So as you saw at the end of The Broken Road... Shane is actually alive and blimey. In the back of my mind I knew he couldn't be dead. They never actually are are they. So Shane is back but Shane isn't actually Shane, he is a shell of the person he once was. All becomes clear when he starts explaining to Megan where he was when they thought they had killed him and what happened to him, I couldn't imagine going through what he went through but he is still hiding something.. A big something. Is he still working for the Cartel? Surely he wouldn't do that after they tried killing Megan and his baby... would he?

In the beginning of The Broken Road I didnt really like Megan she annoyed me, but in the end I felt for her and in the Broken Promise I loved her! All she is trying to do it protect her family and with Shane bringing more trouble to her doorstep what is she to do? She already risked her life on more than one occasion... but isn't it strange how she has never died? She has always been rescued before hand.... Hmmmmm

There is a lot exposed on the Cartel front in Broken Promises and a few things I had put together but others I was shocked at. The final Cartel scene in this book had me in tears. Megan didn't deserve to be in victim in the story, but then she did involve herself by protecting Shane. Maybe they should have just left town as soon as Shane came home.

Without giving much away, with how the last one ended I'm thinking there may be another book, and if there is brilliant I cant wait. If there isn't the story has been finished with just one or two loose ends. You could take them as you see them I guess.

All in all I give The Broken Road 4 stars and Broken Promises 4.5 stars.
