Synopsis:

He was my older brother's best friend.
He was never supposed to be mine.
I thought we would get it out of our system and move on.

One of us did.
One of us left.

Now he’s back, looking at me like he wants to devour me. And all those feelings I’d turned into anger are brewing into something else, something that terrifies me.
He broke my heart last time.
This time he'll obliterate it.

This is a standalone.

LK's Review:

“and she always had a way with her

brokenness. She would take her

pieces and make them beautiful.”

Kaleidoscope Hearts is a story of

heartbreak and healing, loss and

second chances, and a little bit of

forbidden romance. The story starts off with Estelle “Elle” Ruben, a grieving artist, selling the house she shared with her late fiancé, a year after his death.  Moving on with her life, she moves in with her older brother Victor.  Along with that, Oliver Hart, Vic’s best friend, comes back into her life. They have pretty much known each other her whole life. Their forbidden romance started when she was sixteen and he was nineteen, when he came back from college on summer break.  So now, about ten years later, old feelings start to resurface.

I love the history between Elle and Oliver.  I got the sense that they were really good friends, not just that he was her older brother’s best friend. It adds sweetness on top of them having amazing chemistry.  I felt like Elle was completely real as she dealt with everything and stayed true to herself. Oliver was so easy to fall for and he gave me butterflies.

This was my first Claire Contreras book. I loved it and it won't be my last. It was beautifully written in first person with dual POV and some flashbacks scenes. I got such a great sense of who they are, what drove them, and their history that I understood why not all things are stated out loud. I will definitely read more from her and I absolutely recommend this book, as this was a 5 star read for me.

About the author Claire Contreras

Claire Contreras graduated with her BA in Psychology from Florida International University. She lives in Miami, FL with her husband, two little boys, and three dogs.

Her favorite past times are: daydreaming, writing, and reading. She has been described as a random, sarcastic, crazy girl with no filter. Life is short, and it’s more bitter than sweet, so she tries to smile as often as her face allows. She enjoys stories with happy endings, because life is full of way too many unhappy ones.
