Richard McMann hangs by his arms from the rafters of Red Curtain Club- naked. His ankles are bound together and his throat is cut in what appears to be a gruesome still-life tribute to Christ’s crucifixion. There is no blood in spite of the gaping wound to his throat and his entire body is covered by what looks like a fine white powder. The salt granules scattered on the dance floor beneath his feet and the fact that his body faces due east, make his murder different yet similar to the death days earlier in a club a few blocks away.

South Dallas police detective, Olivia Gates and criminal psychologist, Dr. Will Green, engage in a game of wits with a serial killer who haunts the nightclubs of Deep Ellum, leaving behind ritualistic sacrifices of those people he believes deserving of the act. Is he a raging psychopath, killing just to kill, or is there method behind his madness?

Darkness Knows Me by Charinda Jones

A murder mystery with a hint of romance throughout the book.
We meet the strong and independent Olivia Gates, also known as Detective Sargent Gates. She moved back to Dallas a year or so prior to the murder of Richard McMann, club manager. This murder is the start of a serial killer performing some kind of ritual with the bodies.

When more murders start to happen, Olivia turns to her oh so handsome best friend, Dr. Will Green, for help on profiling the unsub and reason behind the killings. We learn that Will and Olivia or Livvy as he calls her, have a long history together. Will realizes that he made a mistake and wants to try and have a relationship with Livvy. Livvy is in love with Will and has been for a long time and I love them together. You can tell he's trying, but because of his past, he is distant and it's putting a strain on them progressing the way they both want to.

Will helps Livvy and her team of detectives try and solve this case that is proving to be difficult because of new variables with every murder throughout the book.

Darkness Knows Me kept me guessing all the way to the end and not just with who the unsub is, but also with what would happen with Livvy and Will's relationship. If you love murder mysteries, then I recommend reading Darkness Knows Me.

I give it 4 stars for keeping me guessing till the end and for the small romance between Will and Livvy.
